The battery indicator turns on and off - what does this mean?

The red light on the dashboard means something is wrong with the car. In normal conditions, all indicators are lit up for a couple of seconds at the moment of engine start, after which the light goes off. That indicates that all systems are the norm, and it is possible to start moving.
If any indicator is on, problems are possible up to the most serious. Today we will look at a situation where the battery indicator icon on the panel starts to light up and go out periodically, which may indicate a problem in the electrical system. What causes the battery indicator to light up?

The battery indicator turns on and off - what does this mean?

The red light on the dashboard means something is wrong with the car. In normal conditions, all indicators are lit up for a couple of seconds at the moment of engine start, after which the light goes off. That indicates that all systems are the norm, and it is possible to start moving.
If any indicator is on, problems are possible up to the most serious. Today we will look at a situation where the battery indicator icon on the panel starts to light up and go out periodically, which may indicate a problem in the electrical system. What causes the battery indicator to light up?

What does the battery do?

The battery provides the car with the electricity necessary to start the engine. During parking, its powers:

● headlamps;● Interior lighting;● multimedia and many other nodes.

If the entire system works with the car engine running, the battery is charged by the alternator. If the battery indicator appears and lights up, there is a problem with its charging and stored electricity.
Because modern cars consume a lot of electricity, this fault causes a lot of trouble. If that happens, the driver should know what the problem is. Usually, the alternator is “fault”, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy.

What causes the battery indicator to light up?

There can be several reasons for failure. It can be, for example, a break in the transmission belt, in other cases, the regulator may be burned or the diode board damaged. The main reasons for the illumination of the battery indicating the failure of the charging system are as follows:

● Drive belt broken

The battery warning light may catch fire due to a break in the power belt connecting the alternator to the crankshaft. The problem may not be only with the belt, which is torn by severe wear or improper installation. It may happen that the belt snapped by blocking one of the system elements. The reasons are to be found, for example, in the damage to one of the rollers by sharp edges.

● Burning of the regulator and rectifier diode platesent

The regulator responsible for keeping the voltage constant may also burn up. This is often the fault of the manufacturers, as it is usually caused by a mistake when assembling, but the rather incorrect connection of the battery cables. Then, in case of a sudden short-circuit, the regulator may fail, and the rectifier diodes responsible for converting AC to DC may be burned out.
It happens when the regulator burns down and the diode boards are serviceable. This fault often occurs due to the water discharge of the alternator. Sometimes the alternator is filled with oil or other working fluid flowing from the wires under the hood.

● Stator burnout

One of the elements of the alternator is the winding of the stator. From the overload, the alternator is heated, resulting in damage to the winding. Loading on this element can have many reasons. Sometimes this is caused by the intensive use of car accessories and sometimes by the wear of alternator components.

● Bearing or pulley wear

Alternator failure is often associated with the wear of one of the structural elements. Especially low-quality bearings are subject to rapid degradation. The alternator pulley also wears out over time. In addition, bearings and pulleys quickly damage by retracting the transmission belt, as well as if the belt tensioning system is faulty.

Summary

The battery light on the car’s dashboard can light up for many reasons. No matter why the battery light comes on, you should never perform the partial repair of the alternator. It may be that in a short time, another element fails. For this reason, the best option would be early recourse to a specialized repair workshop.
