Editing Tesla vehicle configuration parameters

Tesla vehicles, renowned for their cutting-edge technology, have become a symbol of modern automotive progress. These electric vehicles are high-tech devices that blend the functionality of a car with a sophisticated computer system. However, their uniqueness imposes specific requirements for repairs. When replacing a component or assembly, adjustments must also be made to the vehicle’s software, referred to as the vehicle configuration.

Tesla vehicles use two types of configurations: Standard and Secured. The configuration determines which components and systems are present, such as the type of battery—50 kWh or 82 kWh—and how the vehicle interacts with them. For instance, if you decide to equip a Tesla with fog lights, you can install them physically, but the car won’t interact with them, and the user won’t even see the control button for the lights. For the fog lights to function, changes must be made to the vehicle configuration.

How to edit tesla vehicle configurations?

Tesla's electric vehicles exhibit another layer of uniqueness when it comes to service and repairs. Tesla imposes numerous restrictions on editing vehicle configurations to replace components or retrofit vehicles. The official Tesla software tool, ToolBox, allows diagnostics, task execution, and limited editing of standard configuration parameters.
Currently, the only device in the world capable of editing all parameters in the standard configuration of any Tesla model is the LOKI Scanner. Additionally, the LOKI Scanner can modify secured configurations on certain Tesla models:
• Tesla Model 3 manufactured before 2020 with firmware version 2024.14.8.
• Tesla Model S and Model X with Tegra/Intel processors.

Requirements for editing secured parameters using LOKI:
1. Activated Secured Configuration Plugin: The LOKI scanner must have the Secured Configuration plugin enabled. This plugin enables secured parameter editing and bypasses Tesla's security measures.
2. LC005-SEC Cable: This cable connects to the JTAG port on the MCU board. The port is used to program the gateway chip, where the vehicle configuration is stored.

What secured parameters can be modified using LOKI?

The Secured Configuration Plugin allows editing approximately 12 secured Tesla parameters, including:
Country: This parameter is essential for converting vehicles for the European market to enable local radio networks and adjust rear turn signal algorithms for Model 3s manufactured before 2020.
Autopilot: Various Autopilot types can be activated, including:● Autopilot Safety Features● Highway Basic● Enhanced Autopilot● Full Self-Driving (available only in the U.S. and Canada).
Supercharging: After a collision, Tesla disables supercharging capabilities, deeming the vehicle unsafe. LOKI can reactivate supercharging (for an additional fee).
Performance Pack: Many Tesla vehicles are equipped with Performance motors but lack software activation for Performance mode. This can be enabled under certain conditions:• The vehicle must have a Long Range battery.• It must be dual-motor, with the rear motor being a Performance unit with a part number ending in 980.
